Welcome to the first episode in my anxiety series: Locus of Control.
Are you a control freak in some aspects of your life but feel powerless in others?
Do you feel out of control personally, perhaps with emotions running away with you or unable to control drinking or eating or even getting angry and flying off the handle at the slightest thing that goes wrong in the day.
Do you feel you are at the whim of the outside world, with no choices or power?
Do you get angry?
Does your anxiety attack you?
Depression controls how you live your life.
What if I told you this was all in your imagination!
Now before you send in angry emails let me explain.
We can’t have anxiety it isn’t a noun it’s a verb.
We do anxiety.
It is a pattern that we run which is made up of several different components.
This episode focusses on the base of anxiety, which is External Locus of Control.
This is the inability to determine what we control and what we don’t control.
Most of us are busy trying to control everyone and anything around us, all the while completely neglecting to accept that we have any control over ourselves.
In fact, we only have control of our internal experience while at best maybe having some influence over anything external.
So really if you think about it, if you are going to be a control freak, be a control freak where you do have power. With yourself.
And nothing external can control you either, not without your permission.
Only you get to decide how you react to anything external to yourself.
Nothing can make you feel angry or sad or depressed or happy for that matter.
Nothing external to yourself has that power.
You make yourself feel angry or sad or depressed or happy, with your reaction and interpretation of that external event.
It sounds simplistic and it is, but implementing it is often easier said than done.
Because it’s all very well knowing the theory but how about actually putting it into practice.
This is where the power of hypnosis comes into it, it bypasses your conscious critical mind and accesses is your subconscious mind. Hypnosis can be likened to a learning state and so therefore is the perfect state of mind to discard old not so helpful behaviours and replace it with more help for behaviours.
It really is possible to take back control, with just a little bit of help and knowhow.
